Inspired
by the epic Old English poem of the same name, director Robert
Zemeckis's digitally rendered film follows the Scandinavian
hero Beowulf (Ray Winstone) as he fights to protect the Danes
from a ferocious beast named Grendel (Crispin Glover). Though
at first Grendel seems invincible, Beowulf eventually manages
to defeat him in a desperate battle to the death. Devastated
by her son's violent demise at the hands of Beowulf, Grendel's
mother (Angelina Jolie) sets out in search of revenge. Later,
Beowulf faces the biggest challenge of his life when he attempts
to slay a powerful dragon. Anthony Hopkins, Robin Wright Penn,
Alison Lohman, John Malkovich, and Brendan Gleeson co-star in
an epic fantasy adventure penned by Roger Avary and Neil Gaiman.

Iceland's Sigur Rós hail from a smaller, chillier nation
than Garth, but their star shines bright there; the Reykjavik
homecoming show that capped their free tour this summer
was the biggest gig in their nation's history! Renowned
for their attention to details, the atmospheric ensemble's
new release, "Hvarf-Heim," is actually two EPs,
available as a double-CD album, or single album download.
"Hvarf" (which translates roughly as "disappeared")
boasts five rarities from the band's back catalog, most
previously unreleased, recorded in a studio setting. In
contrast, "Heim" ("home") showcases
a half-dozen acoustic arrangements of Sigur Rós classics.
Not that they took the "unplugged" route just
to be in vogue; some of the venues on the aforementioned
nationwide tour didn't have electrical power.

proved once again that when an opponent backs her up against
the wall, she'll turn to her executioner's weapons.
In one of the most dramatic year-end battles on record,
No. 1 Justine Henin clawed her way back from a set down
to overcome a spirited Maria Sharapova 5-7, 7-5, 6-3 in
nearly three and a half hours and retain her Sony Ericsson
WTA Championships title in Madrid.
The victory capped off a spectacular year for the 25-year-old,
who won a career-high 10 titles, including the French
and U.S. Opens. The win extended Henin's winning streak
to 26 matches and made her the first woman since Steffi
Graf in 1989 to go unbeaten after Wimbledon.
